ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR

The Macedonian Enterprise Development Foundation (MEDF) is one of the organizers of the selection for most successful entrepreneurs of micro and small enterprises in Republic of Macedonia, within the traditional event – Entrepreneur of the Year for 2009. The event took place in co-organization with the Macedonian Chambers of Commerce, Ministry of Economy, Agency for Promotion of Entrepreneurship, Center for Entrepreneurship and Executive Development, Business Start-Up Center, European Business Association and the Economic Chamber of North-West Macedonia. The final promotion took place in hotel Aleksandar Palace in Skopje.

The objective of the project is promotion of entrepreneurship in the country, through promotion of the most successful micro and small entrepreneurs in Republic of Macedonia.

First and second award were given to the most successful entrepreneurs, in two categories, for micro and small enterprises:

• Second award in the category of micro enterprises was awarded to Igor Petkovic, owner of the freight company Mediteran NP, Skopje;
• First award in the category of micro enterprises was awarded to Bejtula Biljali, owner of Swiss Center, village Bogovinje, Tetovo;
• Second award in the category of small enterprises was awarded to Filip Spasovski, owner of the digital center for graphic printing Poliesterday, Skopje;
• First award in the category of small enterprises was awarded to Adem Kocan, owner of the company for production of agricultural produce Kanet-Agro, Skopje.

In the two categories, the second award consisted of silver statuette and voucher intended for marketing activities in amount of 25,000 MKD whereas the first award consisted of golden statuette and voucher intended for marketing activities in amount of 61,000 MKD.

The pre-selection for “Entrepreneur of the Year – 2009” was made on the basis of the data from the Central Register of Republic of Macedonia. Namely, 218 micro and small enterprises, from 2006 to 2008, registered growth on the basis of employees, total income, profit and investments.

Tetjana Lazarevska, Executive Director of MEDF, stated that these enterprises have doubled their number of employees, income and investment in this period whereas have increased their profit for almost five times.

The final selection was made from the entrepreneurs interested in the selection and who, through the collection of data in form of questionnaire, field visit, analysis and marking in previously established criteria (dedication of own training and training of employees, marketing and growth strategy, R&D research, innovation) were selected as the most successful.

The Ministry of Economy of Republic of Macedonia awarded the special award to Hemija Komerc from Veles for most fast growing small manufacturing company.
